Recognition of International Adoptions

Prospective adoptive parents must be approved by the United State Department of Homeland Security to adopt a child abroad.  Generally, all of the legal proceedings are finalized in the country of the child’s origin; however, many adoptive parents choose to have the international adoption recognized by a District Court in Texas.

This process also secures a Texas birth certificate for the child.  Depending on the child’s country of origin, a “re-adoption” of the child may be necessary in some circumstances.  If you are considering adopting abroad, or you have returned home with your child, we can assist you.
